May 2019 saw PICT core faculty member Kristof K.P. Vanhoutte embark on a lecture tour of South Africa, including talks at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, the University of South Africa, and the 3rd Biennial Conference on Spirituality and Healthcare organized by HospiVision, a South African charity devoted to the care of hospitalized people.
Kristof’s talks touched on a variety of themes, with titles such as “What hasN’T Athens to do with Jerusalem? An Archaeology of the Concept of Heresy”, “The Dangerous Paradigm of the Afterlife. On the Perils of the Analogies of the Beyond in the Care for Humans”, and “There is no such Thing as Continental Philosophy”. Most importantly for (future) PICT students, the lecture tour gave Kristof the chance to test and explore the main topics of his forthcoming PICT course, Thinking Through the Afterlife (Fall 2019).
