Macha Matalaev Curates Berlinsky Exhibition
From July 18 to August 16, 2020, the Corbillière Museum in Mer hosted the exhibition “La musique d’une vie,” curated by PICT core faculty member Macha Matalaev. The exhibition highlighted the life and work of famed Russian cellist Valentin Berlinsky (1925-2008), co-founder of the legendary Borodin Quartet.
Macha Matalaev is the translator and editor of Valentin Berlinsky: le quatuor d’une vie (Aedam Musicae, 2015), a volume retracing Berlinsky’s career from his own writings. The book, recipient of the “Prix du Témoignage” at the 2016 Prix des Muses, has also appeared in English translation as Valentin Berlinsky—A Quartet for Life (Kahn & Averill, 2019). The exhibition was co-sponsored by the Clé des Portes Music Festival and the Association internationale Dimitri Chostakovitch.
