Macha Matalaev book launch at the Savile Club in London

On September 27, 2018, PICT co-founder and core faculty member Macha Matalaev launched the English translation of her award-winning book, Valentin Berlinksy – Le Quatuor D’une Vie (Prix du Témoignage, Prix des Muses, Paris 2016) at the Savile Club in London, UK. The translation, published by Kahn & Averill, carries the title, Valentin Berlisnky – A Quartet for Life.

Valentin Berlinksy (1925-2008) was a founding member and cellist of the famed Borodin Quartet for more than six decades. The book is compiled from his diaries, correspondence, and interviews, and also includes his accounts of his close friendships with the likes of Shostakovich, Richter, Rostropovich, and Oistrakh. Taken as a whole, Valentin Berlisnky – A Quartet for Life offers one of the most revealing chronicles of Soviet and post-Soviet Russian musical life available to Western audiences.
