Makeup Through the Decades-40s&50s

The second night of the two-day intensive PICT workshop, “Makeup Through the Decades,” took place on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

Michelle Coursey and Jessica Padilla, professional makeup artists and educators residing in New York City, provided an overview of makeup history in the 1940s and 1950s, when the industry and advertising of makeup responded to the challenges of World War II and contributed to redefining women’s role in society during and after the war, creating images of new women that integrated values such as patriotism, sex appeal, and public visibility. Michelle and Jessica went on to demonstrate iconic makeup styles from these decades with the help of our graceful models, Macha Matalaev and Evrim Emir-Sayers.
