PICT Presents: Ambar Velasco Exhibition
The Paris Institute for Critical Thinking (PICT) is delighted to present Women at Night, a solo exhibition of paintings by Ambar Velasco. The exhibition will take place on Saturday, 30 March 2024, and will be hosted by the Mairie de Paris Centre.
Women at Night finds Velasco exploring the unruly atmosphere unveiled by the moonlight, a space which is both mysterious and tantalising, foreboding yet invigorating. The lively figures engage in mundane and unconditioned behaviours that disregard traditional and constricting definitions of womanhood. Conversing, debating, laughing, reading, and eating, the women are shown socialising in various ways, capturing a sense of community, shared fears and desires, and aspirational liberation.
As Creative Assistant at PICT, Velasco has contributed illustrations to the monthly PICT e-newsletter as well as to “A Cloud in Love,” Evrim Emir-Sayers’ translation of Nazım Hikmet’s classic children’s tale, published in dePICTions, PICT’s annual critical review. Apart from bringing together a previously unseen body of paintings, Women at Night will also feature highlights from Velasco’s œuvre over the last year.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
